Updated: Mar 3, 2019

-THE YOUNG MODEL-

Being young and thriving in this modern society is challenging yet possible to achieve.

There are many young people nowadays who has already done “big things” in such a young age. Some have established businesses, some have gone beyond and became celebrities or even famous influencers on social media platforms. In today’s DNA, social media has been a quite impactful platform to transform people lives. Not only recognitions from the society, but also the more opportunities it brings along the way.

We have interviewed one of the Boston-based influencers, a model, and a student, Jacy Kretas -- around the life as a young model in this era of fast internet. Kretas is a nineteen-year-old student who is currently a freshman studying at University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Boston. He is also a proud Greek descent who deeply rooted to his Greek culture. In his freshman year, he has gathered around 20,3 thousand followers on his Instagram account. By doing modeling, he is able to earn money and travel to places. He added that modeling is also something that he would love to do, professionally, in the nearly future. He has worked with several brands such as The Tie Bar, The W Hotel, and even doing endorsements for brands through Instagram. He has been featured on several Boston-based magazines and websites such as Polished Magazine and OOTD Bostonian website.

Kretas’s big ambition is to walk for well-known designers, photoshoots for brands like Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), and being featured in magazines. In February 2019, he will be walking in one of the most iconic events in the fashion industry: the London Fashion Week, which he will be walking for a few fashion designers. This was something that he was really looking forward to as of 2019.

As the saying goes by a well-known American football player;

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.

Nothing comes in handy. The same goes to Kretas’s modeling career. According to Kretas, creating a content as a model is not an easy job. You have to able to find your own personal content that suits you. Kretas said, “Being able to find the right content to represent yourself as a portfolio - helps a content creator to build their career for a greater opportunity.” Kretas himself is focusing more on men’s lifestyle, as seen on his instagram account, which receives positive feedbacks from his fellow followers .

As a model and a student who is actively involved in the track and field team of UMASS Boston, being organized is very crucial. In order for him to succeed in both modeling and having a great college life, he needs to balance his time for school as a student, a model, and a teenager as well.

Other than modeling, Kretas also acknowledges his interest in the entertainment industry, especially towards television and reality shows. One of his model inspiration is Corentin Huard. Kretas claimed to find them very similar since they are focused on the same niche, which also motivates him to be more successful, just like Huard.

Towards the end of the interview, Kretas shared how he kept himself motivated in achieving his goals. He stated, “Having a lot of goals and the desire to achieve more in life helps me to focus more on my career than anything else.” He also mentioned, “Being motivated just comes naturally as a part of my daily routine”. It is something you continually do.

Kretas’s message to all young people or anyone who feels insecure or afraid to begin pursuing their dream is, “Just go do it. Don’t bother what people say and just do what you gotta do to pursue your dream.” It’s now or never!
