I love my body, I love my skin I am a goddess, I am a queen I love my body, I love my skin I am a goddess, I am a queen

Queen by Jessie J

Can we talk mantras today? I shared my mantra on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and decided that I wanted to share why it is one of my favorite mantras with y’all today. I honestly grew up with no body images issues. I went through that awkward teenage year phase without much trepidation. See what had happened was the Freshman 15 … soooo college came through and well your girl gained a couple of pounds and the road to accepting my new body began. I went through many days when I felt like I wasn’t the ideal size and it didn’t help that some of my friends didn’t seem to be gaining a pound when I was out here packing them on! See comparison is the thief of joy y’all (s/o to Teddy Rooservelt)!

I got to a point when I talked to my sister and said ‘yeah I need to lose weight – I don’t recognize myself anymore’. And so the journey to finding me and loving this new body began. I don’t want to throw around the words ‘self love’ as they are used to mean a variety of things. What I knew was that I needed to change how I saw and valued myself. I had lost the love for this temple that was given me to steward. So I started putting in the work not to lose the weight but to start seeing myself and loving who I had become.

So yeah, while I am a gorgeous #thickums queen proudly rocking a cut out dress love handles and all walking and posing with her head held high … you are seeing the end product of lots of self talk: enter the mantras. Being able to speak life into yourself is one of the most important things you should do – and on a daily basis – as often as needed really. This is why I love and rely on my mantras. The lyrics by Jessie J remind me of who I am especially when I get down on myself because of how I look. They immediately remind me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. They remind me that I am royalty. See what we don’t realize is that we become what we say – so what are you saying about yourself? Do you speak life and positivity into your life or are you the cause of your own depression?

It’s necessary to take this introspective approach and really be honest with yourself. Are you your biggest critic or champion? It’s time to be better to ourselves. It’s important to stop and just love on yourself. You are honestly amazing. You are so beautiful. You are absolutely able to overcome the hurdles in your path. You can do this.

Come on queen – hold your head up, don’t you realize that you are royalty?
